documenting in a surveillance capitalistic climate

recently noticed this feeling when recording jams where when i'm aware of the camera rolling, my performance loses a hint of authenticity

i've been telling myself to document my experiences, mostly in video or visual formats in order to capture the process and progress of my practices - however when the camera is on, i've noticed that my brain switches immediately to a "performance setting" and handles whatever i'm about to record in a different way - where i'm more prone to the desire of doing something impressive, as compared to when i'm jamming without the camera on, i'm just feeling good about whatever i've made

recently watching the truman show also made me realise this - is the camera a cage that we're forcing ourselves and our work to be in? how have we conditioned ourselves where a visual document i.e. video / photo is equivalent to surveillance? and how do we unlearn it?
